In 2011 Joyful Pear Design was started up in Whangārei to help small businesses & individuals with their marketing items & computer skills.
The main idea was for short 2-3 hour sessions using your own computer at your place, just what you need to know, at your pace.

Workshops

In 2013 to help cut down costs for folks Joyful Pear Design started offering small group workshops at a range of venues and night-classes.
Topics included Adobe Photoshop, Website design, and eBooks.
Workshops are now available every term at CEW Whangārei.

Creatives

From the beginning Joyful Pear Design has focused on helping those who may sometimes have found computers a hindrance to what they'd like to create. JPD has specialised in helping artists, creatives, & small businesses, who want quick easy solutions to their projects.

I've enjoyed working in the publishing industry, as a graphic designer using computers, since the 90s. I've worked in magazines, advertising, in-house design studios, and had a small Graphic Design business with my then husband for over 10 years. Since 2011 I've had my own small business making and teaching website design, graphic design, and eBooks. I enjoy all the exciting new things we can easily do online nowadays & love sharing ideas with clients & at workshops.

Teaching

I started teaching adults graphic design and computing in the 90s. I prefer Student Centred learning techniques that make learning as fun & easy as possible. I love learning new things myself, have attended a wide range of courses (from multimedia to teaching Adults), & I understand the challenges with learning new technology. I have taught at tertiary schools, night-classes, & private tuition, and enjoy helping folks discover the potential of what they can do.

Art Techniques

When not teaching or designing I'm often making art. I started exploring art as a small child and have tried every technique I can get my hands on including glass making and welding. Art is my relaxing hobby and de-stressor that I use to decorate my house and garden - I've sold some works but mainly I just enjoy the fun of the process. I've done loads of art courses myself (from life drawing to stone carving...) and now teach some workshops to help others discover their inner artist & how much fun they can have with art.
